Some sequences shot in Thies (Senegal) last month on a sabar, a traditional party from West Africa, at Ndeye Seck’s home, screened at the programme Buenos Días Canarias.
The images of the sabar will be part of the documentary “Percussions”, a production of La FET and Khaleebi Productions. We’re actually shooting some sequences for the documentary, which tells the story of three women percussionist thriving in a man’s world in Senegal, Cuba and Spain.
It was an immense honor to attend the IV Festival du Film Documentaire in St Louis last week as a member of the jury for the shortfilms in competition along with my colleagues Yannick Mertens (France) and Birame Diop (Senegal).
I had the opportunity to see in open air screenings along St Louis a long list of documentaries that have been produced and shot in Africa in 2017. Lots of great films are coming up!

My review on Mediterranea, the new movie by Jonas Carpignano, has been recently published in Migrados, a blog focused on the subject of migration coordinated by the journalist and editor Lola Hierro as part of Planeta Futuro/El País.
Mediterranea is one of the three movies that was selected for the LUX Prize by the European Parliament and the Spanish premiere was in Santiago de Compostela during Cineuropa, the European Film Festival in Galicia. The film was released in eight different European cities simultaneously: Brussels, París, Aarhus, Bratislava, Cork, Lisbon, Sevilla and Santiago de Compostela.
